Adventures in Mall Skincare
2012
A couple of weeks ago, my dear husband and I went to the mall to return something. We decided that, while we were there, we would check out some skincare and see if we could find anything all natural. We already know that The Body Shop is out. So we went to Sephora, Aveda, Nordstrom and Bare Escentuals to read labels.First, we walked into Nordstrom. We didn’t ask any questions, but we picked up a lot of jars and bottles and just read the labels. There were so many things that we didn’t recognize and couldn’t pronounce! Next, off to Aveda. There were fewer things we didn’t recognize, but some ingredients still sounded a little scary. Bare Escentuals seemed to be the best as far as makeup went.
Upon entering Sephora, we were approached by an over-zealous young man eager to sell us something, anything. We asked if they had any all natural skincare. We were pointed to four specific lines, Origins, Ole Henriksen, Boscia and Caudalie. Boscia seemed to be the cleanest. But nothing was completely all natural.
The bottom line is that I could not find ONE product that didn’t contain something that I’m not comfortable slathering on the largest organ of my body. Stay tuned, folks, I’m about to start creating my own skincare.

I’ve been starting to experiment with making my own body products. I’m currently using a home made deodorant and I absolutely LOVE it. I use a face soap and moisturizer from LUSH. They are handmade and vegan, but I know they aren’t 100% natural. It’s a long process trying to switch to all natural, but we’re getting there.
